Samsung Believes Galaxy S6 And S6 Edge Sales Will Reach 70 Millions
Samsung previously estimated that it would be able to sell 50 million Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge handsets in 2015, but now the South Korean company has upped that to a whopping 70 million – but is that actually a realistic figure? We think it might be.
This could very well be Samsung’s year if it’s new Galaxy S6 duo live up to expectations.
The Korea Times recently spoke to Samsung which believes it will shift 70 million Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge handsets this year.
"The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are drawing positive responses. I have no doubt that they will be the biggest-sellers in the Galaxy series ever," said a company executive. "We expect 70 million plus" he added.
Echoing similar sentiments, Samsung's Vice Chairman Kwon Oh-hyun said, "The S6 should do well. The first week looks impressive."
While everyone was sceptical about the Galaxy S6 being accompanied by the S6 Edge – which sports a unique curved screen design – the latter has actually accounted for half of their sales. That’s pretty impressive, as no one expected the Edge to sell nearly as well.
Carriers including T-Mobile are also reporting impressive sales of the Galaxy S6, claiming that sales are actually double than that of the Samsung Galaxy S5 in the same period.
The duo show no signs of slowing down either, with TrendForce predicting that over 20 million units will be shifted during the second quarter. In fact they’ve created such a buzz that they’ve helped Samsung top smartphone market share charts for the first quarter of 2015.
Recently Samsung did admit that it had failed to anticipate such a high demand for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, thus leading to potential supply constraints which we’re hoping won’t be the case.
If production keeps up to speed and the public keep on paying, then we wouldn’t rule out 70 million being flogged by the end of the year.
