Apple Set To Kickstart Electric Cars By Year 2020
Apple is reportedly aiming to kickstart production on electric cars by 2020.
The Cupertino firm has assigned 200 staff to the project in a bid to deliver the final product within five years, according to Bloomberg.
Rumours of an Apple-branded vehicle intensified earlier this week when a company that makes batteries for electric cars sued the iPhone maker for poaching its staff.
The news followed reports that Apple has also attempted to recruit battery engineers from electric car manufacturer Tesla.
There have also been claims that the firm has brought in automotive tech and vehicle design experts to work on a secret research project in Silicon Valley.
A move into the electric car sector would see Apple go head to head with Tesla and General Motors, both of which are aiming to launch their vehicles by 2017.
Apple's first step into the automotive industry began with its in-car dashboard system CarPlay, which launched last year.
