WhatsApp has announced that it will introduce voice calling within the coming months.
The messenger service's CEO Jan Koum confirmed at the Mobile World Congress that the feature will be added during the second quarter of the year.
Voice calling will be added to WhatApp's Android, iPhone and iPad apps, with select Nokia and BlackBerry devices gaining the feature at a later date.
The additional functionality sees the service bring heightened competition to rival applications such as BBM, which added voice calls to its iOS and Android apps earlier this month.
WhatsApp is yet to confirm whether it will charge extra for the new service.
