BlackBerry is reportedly planning to launch a 64-bit smartphone with an octa-core processor next year.
The Canadian firm is developing a handset equipped with Qualcomm's eight-core Snapdragon MSM8994 chipset that clocks in at 2.5GHz.
Company CEO John Chen has insisted that BlackBerry will not turn its back on the smartphone market despite its recent struggles, with new mid-range and budget devices believed to be in the works.
The firm is understood to be launching two new hardware ranges - the QWERTY keyboard-equipped W-series and the touchscreen-compatible B-series.Both series are expected to be powered by Qualcomm's 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor, while rumours of a quad-core BlackBerry handset codenamed Ontario are also in circulation.
