When Sony bought Gaikai the online gaming service, it was thought to be part of a plan allowing PS4 gamers to play older games.
Sony has unveiled PlayStation Now, an online gaming service which allows users to stream games to their PS4, PS3, PS Vita or select BRAVIA TV through rental or a subscription.
Initially a US-only service PS Now will give PS4 gamers the ability to play older PS3 titles by streaming them over the internet whilst also opening up the world of streaming games online to Sony's BRAVIA TVs.
When Sony announced it had bought Gaikai, an online gaming company, it was believed that Sony would be integrating it as part of a plan to allow PS4 gamers to play older titles.
Whilst it does allow this, it'll also launch on PS3, finally heading to PS Vita and BRAVIA TVs with users logging in to the service and then either renting a game or signing up to a subscription.
For those who want to move across devices, Sony has confirmed that you'll be able start a game on your PS3 system, log off and then resume playing where you left off on another system, whether it's your TV or PS Vita.
Announced at CES, PS Now will be available to demo at the show with games on offer including The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls and God of War: Ascension.
The service is US-only for the moment with a beta starting on limited numbers of PS3 systems in January. There's no word on whether Sony will bring PS Now to the UK.
