Sony To Release Windows Phone This Year

Sony is considering releasing a smartphone running the Windows Phone operating system this year,
according to a report.

The Information claims that the electronics giant has held preliminary discussions with Microsoft with a view to adopting it's mobile operating system.

The report goes on to say that Sony has developed a prototype Windows Phone handset, but does not divulge any specs details.

It is unclear whether the potential device is likely to run a skinned version of the Microsoft software, similar to Sony's Android smartphones.

Microsoft is expected to heavily invest in the smartphone market in 2014, following it's big-money acquisition of Nokia's devices and services business last year.

The report also claims that the company is in talks with Chinese manufacturer ZTE to launch low-end Windows Phone devices in Asia, Europe and the US.
