Samsung Unveils Galaxy Camera 2

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Camera 2 ahead of CES.

Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Camera 2 runs on Android, has a large 4.8-inch touchscreen and has wireless connectivity.

When Samsung took the wraps off the first Galaxy Camera, it was said that it wanted to create a device that made taking, editing and sharing pictures easier.

The latest camera is still based on that philosophy. However, it also receives a fairly large spec bump that should help address one of the main criticisms of the first device.

The Galaxy Camera 2 comes with the same 16-megapixel resolution and a fairly small 1/2.33-inch sensor. However, it also comes with a new image processing system that Samsung claims will produce significantly better pictures.

The new model also comes with a 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and a battery that Samsung claims will last around 350 shots. It also comes with Android 4.3, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Samsung has not yet confirmed whether or not there will be a 3G version as with the original. We expect that the company will announce more details at CES next week.

Many of the biggest additions to the camera are it's shooting modes. Thanks to the new processor, Samsung has been able to ramp up the number of smart scene modes to 28.

However, Samsung hasn’t sought to dumb-down the camera. Users will be able to select separate autofocus and autoexposure points using the camera’s touchscreen.

The Galaxy Camera 2 will be slightly larger than it's predecessor, which was already on the slightly large side. However, it still features the same 21x zoom range of the original , a 3200 ISO, the ability to shoot 1080p video and a 120FPS slow motion mode.

Pricing and availability should be announced soon, possibly next week at CES. Samsung has promised that it will be showing off the new camera at the event next week.
