Samsung Galaxy S5 To Feature Head Tracking Technology

When the Samsung Galaxy S4 debuted in March last year, one of it's major features was it's ability to track the eye movement of users.

Now it looks like Samsung could be taking it to another level with the publishing of a patent that demonstrates how a phone could track the position of a head.

The application was recently published in Europe. However, it was filed in July 2013, suggesting that the it may be a feature that makes it into Samsung’s upcoming update to it's flagship smartphone.

According to the patent, the technology would make use of the front-facing camera to track the user’s head.

Practical uses described in the patent including being able to control the phone in situations where the user can’t touch the screen – such as when they are wearing gloves or driving.

The publishing of the patent follows previous speculation that Samsung is looking to implement iris-scanning technology into the next generation of Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

A Samsung executive confirmed the company is looking into the technology, but they stopped short of saying whether or not the feature would make it into the Samsung Galaxy S5.

He did, however, confirm that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would launch in Spring, around the same time as the Galaxy S4.
