Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has urged Christians to use the Christmas and the New Year celebrations to preach national rebirth and transformation.
He made the call on Monday in Ilorin in his Christmas and New Year message to the people of the State.
Ahmed also advised the faithful to use the period to pray for peace and unity in the country.
He said the period should also be seen as a season of showing love, especially to the needy.
The Governor said Nigerians must always project the virtues of humility, self denial and brotherliness, which were the hallmarks of the teachings of Christianity and other religions.
``Nigeria at this period and always, needs God’s favour, which we can get through fervent prayers, show of compassion for others and unity against hatred and avarice.
``These are the lessons we should imbibe in this festive season,’’ he said.
He commended Christian leaders in the state for promoting religious harmony through their preaching and urged them to increase the tempo this season and beyond.
He assured the people of the state of his administration’s commitment to fairness and equity to all.
The Governor said he was poised to sustain the objectives of the Shared Prosperity Programme designed to transform the state into one of the most industrially and economically virile states in the country.
