Samsung 4K Tablet Spotted

A prototype Samsung tablet with a 4K screen has been spotted during the French Open.

The tablet – bearing Samsung’s name – was being used as part of a LTE broadcast demo at the tennis tournament.
While the video stream was only 720p, the user pulled up additional windows that gave a true glimpse of the screen’s resolution.
According to Qualcomm, the device isn’t headed to retailers anytime soon. Instead it is aimed at broadcasters and operators to perform tests with. Specs weren’t available, but a representative told TechRadar that it features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801.
It’s expected that by the time a tablet with a 4K display arrives, Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 805 chip will have arrived. The new HEVC format – which uses a lot less bandwidth than today’s formats should also be on the scene.
The first 4K tablets should begin arriving before the end of the year, Qualcomm said.
